no invent{\'a}rio florestal. Dados laser scanner
existem duas principais abordagens: a Abordagem Baseada na
{\'A}rea (ABA) e a Detec{\c{c}}{\~a}o Individual das
{\'A}rvores (ITD). O objetivo geral do trabalho {\'e} integrar
informa{\c{c}}{\~o}es ALS e imagens a{\'e}reas no
invent{\'a}rio florestal. Para tanto, o estudo foi dividido em
duas etapas, sendo a primeira destinada {\`a}
\emph{Eucalyptus urograndis}, utilizando a abordagem ABA. Dessa
imagens a{\'e}reas multiespectrais (RMSE=8,45\%) e a
J{\'a} a segunda etapa, avaliou o
ABSTRACT: Remote sensing has been
increasingly used to assess forest inventory. Airborne Laser
Scanning Systems (ALS) are emphasized for detailing the vertical
structure of the forest, whether optical images for allowing
further details of the horizontal structure of the forest. To
obtain forest attributes, two main approaches are applied to
process these data types: Area Based Approach (ABA), and
Individual Tree Detection (ITD). In this study, our aim is to
demonstrate the two main approaches to estimate stand volume in
\emph{Eucalyptus} plantations using ALS and image data. To do so,
we first model the stand volume using a standard ABA approach,
using different combinations of ALS-based and image-based metrics
as independent model variables. Three different scenarios were
compared: using only variables from ALS data (RMSE = 6.84\%),
only the variables derived from aerial images (RMSE = 8.45\%) and
the integration of both (RMSE = 5.23\%), which underestimated the
true value by 2.98%. Second, we utilize ITD based approach to
estimate tree count and then integrate it with the stand volume
predicted with ABA (semi-ITD). The merging of the two approaches
allows prediction of mean individual tree volume. Then, we
introduce a correction method to improve the volume predictions.
After that, we downscaled the total volume prediction to single
tree level. Finally, we obtained a RMSE of 12.66\% in the bias
modeling, resulting in a standard deviation of 0.37 trees per
hectare. In this study we demonstrated a method of using
individual tree locations as an enhancement of traditional
area-based approach. Our approach allowed to estimate individual
tree volume with negligible bias.",
